Inflammatory breast cancer (IBC) is a rare form of breast cancer, accounting for one to five percent of all breast cancers, according to the American Cancer Society.

Dana Farber to host third annual IBC Forum

BOSTON — The third annual IBC Forum is scheduled for Saturday, May 4, 2019, at Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston.

The program is open to individuals diagnosed with IBC, family, friends, and caregivers.

Participants will hear presentations from a variety Dana Farber’s IBC Program specialists on the latest treatment and research news about IBC. You will also be able to network with other IBC patients and caregivers, and ask questions of the panel of experts.

Presentations will include “Inherited Genetics of IBC,” “Sexual Health after an IBC Diagnosis,” and “IBC Research Updates.”

The program includes a light breakfast, three presentations, lunch, and networking. This year, Dana Farber will offer genetic testing for anyone interested and an optional support group session immediately following the forum. If you anticipate utilizing the genetics service, please email geneticsfair@dfci.harvard.edu in advance in order to complete a registration process.

The forum will be held at the Yawkey Conference Center, third floor, 450 Brookline Avenue, Boston, from 9:30 a.m.to 2 p.m.

IBC networking group schedule set for 2019

(November 24, 2018) — The IBC networking group meets regularly throughout the year and provides a venue for sharing experiences and information.

Coordinated and facilitated by Facing Cancer Together, the group will meet in Milton in 2019 at the Church of Our Saviour, 453 Adams St., Milton, MA. (unless otherwise designated).

The 2019 schedule of meetings is:

In 2018, the IBC networking group added two meetings outside of its main office in Brighton to expand its reach. The group opted to meet in 2019 in Milton due to the popularity of the location.

All meetings are held from 10 a.m. to noon.

IBC education and support event at Dana Farber

(Boston, April 17, 2018) —  The IBC program at Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston is holding a support group meeting and education program on Monday April 23.

The program will include an educational presentation by Dr. Beth Harrison, Breast Pathologist at Dana Farber.

The meeting begins at 11:45 a.m. and will be held in room 335 of the Smith Building, accessible from the third floor of the Yawkey Building.

IBC Patient Forum set for May 5 at Dana Farber

(February 23, 2018) — Dana Farber is holding its second annual Inflammatory Breast Cancer Patient Forum on Saturday, May 5.

The event offers education, support, and companionship for people with inflammatory breast cancer and their family, friends, and caregivers.

Led by Dana-Farber’s IBC Program experts, the forum offers updates on the latest, state of the art IBC treatment, current research, and a variety of supportive care resources. By educating and strengthening the network of IBC patients, loved ones, providers, and researchers through programs like the IBC Patient Forum, Dana Farber hopes to further the understanding of IBC and create a supportive and resilient community.

The program includes three presentations followed by lunch and networking, and concludes with a panel Q&A.

This year’s speakers:

  • Pathology of IBC, Beth Harrison, MD
  • Lymphedema, Angela Serig, OTR/L, CHT, CLT-LANA
